Poppy ~ Greta

Title: Poppy
Author: Mary Hooper
Genre: Historical fiction
Book: 11/20

Poppy has a simple, repetitive life. She works at the famous de Vere household as their parlourmaid. Daily chores and her personal thoughts consume her day, but when Freddie de Vere, the youngest boy, starts looking at her in a 'more then just a parlourmaid' way, she starts to notice him...

Around the world, World War 1 is raging. Poppy's mother and two sisters are safe at home and Billy, her brother and her father, Stanley are defending their country.  During this period of time, her old English teacher gets in touch with Poppy suggesting a meet up for afternoon tea and that Poppy might decide to become a VAD (nurse) to get involved in the war more. Poppy communicates via letter writing back and forth. She volunteers and trains hard, earning the VAD uniform.

Along the way her brother performs an unforgivable move, she searches for and finds her heart, she discovers how heartbroken she really is seeing all the British boys coming in with horrendous injuries and more.

I genuinely loved this book! I couldn't put it down. The words the author used created the story vividly in my head and that made for a very entertaining read. 10/10 I rate this book to anyone!

( this was set in 1914/1915 during WW1 )
